What awaits people after flood is a bundle of waterborne diseases and health problems. So, it is wise to ensure the food and water you eat is safe to consume. Here are simple steps to clean drinking water using chlorine.
How to do?
As a first step, prepare chlorine solution with 5% strength of chlorine. To make this, mix 15 gram bleaching powder with 100 ml (half glass) water and keep for 15-20 minutes. Clear water derived from this could be used as chlorine solution.
To purify drinking water from bacteria, add 8 drops (0.5 ml) of chlorine solution in 1 litre of water to purify it. Two tea spoons of chlorine solution (10 ml) could be used in 20 litre water.
If chlorine tablets are available, 20 litre water (approx. one pot water) could be purified using one chlorine tablet (500 ml).
However, the water purified with chlorine solution should be consumed only after one hour of purification process.
