Does wheat beat rice?
Rice has been the social identity of Keralites for a long time. Due to socio-economic and financial conditions, wheat also became part of our routine food. Wheat is fatless and rich in fibre, Vitamin D, Iron, Calcium and Magnesium.
However, wheat has the presence of ‘Gluten’, a kind of protein that acts as a binder, holding the food together. Hence, some doctors prescribe to avoid wheat if they have certain diseases like Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
Many believe that wheat can replace rice if one has diabetes. But the fact is that the level of carbohydrates in wheat is almost the same as that of rice. The study on wheat was done a thousand years ago by experts in Ayurveda. They have found out that wheat provides ample energy for day to day work. It facilitates blood circulation and energises the muscles and bones. It also regenerates cells and heals cuts.
Wheat is prescribed for diseases that cause damage to the eyes and the brain (Cerebral/Optic atrophy). Also, wheat is good to enhance the count of semen and increase sexual energy.
