Falafel pita sandwich is a major item in Mediterranean restaurants. It is a vegetarian’s favourite. With a bit of effort, you can make this sandwich at home. Here is the recipe.
Ingredients
- Bread crumbs: 100 grams
- Coriander leaves: 50 grams
- Cumin powder: 1 teaspoon
- Salt: As per taste
- Red capsicum: 1 teaspoon (crushed)
- Chickpea: 200 grams (cooked)
- Olive oil: 100 ml
- Garlic: 3 cloves (crushed)
- Pita bread: 4 nos
- Onion, tomato, cucumber: 100 grams (finely sliced)
- Sesame seed paste: 50 mg
- Lettuce: 10 grams
- Lime juice: 10 grams
- Curd: 1 tablespoon
Preparation
Falafel
Throw the first 7 ingredients in a blender and add 2/3 of the garlic. Blitz everything into a fine paste. Divide the mix into 16 equal parts and roll each part into ¼ inch thick patties. Heat up olive oil in a pan and fry them until golden brown on both sides.
Sauce
Take curd, lime juice, sesame seed paste and the remaining garlic in a bowl and mix well. Spread 1 ½ teaspoons of this paste on each side of the Pita bread. Fill each bread with 1 lettuce leaf, two slices of tomato and patties. Ready to serve.
