Cassava or tapioca is one of the traditional but popular food item in Kerala. Normally, cassava is associated with spicy fish curry. Some sweet delights can also be made using cassava. Let's make 'Kumpilappam', a traditional Kerala snack using cassava. 

Tapioca: 500 gm
Grated coconut: 1/2 cup
Sugar: 400 gm
Cardamom: 8 No.
Ghee: 1 tspn
Banana leaf: As required
Cashew nut: As required

Clean the tapioca by removing the skin and wash properly. Grate the tapioca and squeeze the water content out using hands. Now, add sugar, crushed cardamom, grated coconut, ghee with tapioca and mix them well. No need to add to water. Then, take a banana leaf and make a cone with it. Put the mixture into the banana leaf cone and keep a cashew nut on top of the mixture. Pin the leaves to keep the shape. Steam it for 30 minutes or till it is done. Allow it to cool and serve it with tea or coffee.
