Poison found in rice brought to private godown in Kottayam
Kottayam: In a worrying incident, traces of poison was found in rice that was brought to a private godown in Ettumanoor here on Thursday. The rice contained traces of Aluminium Phosphate.
Workers experienced discomfort and itching while unloading the rice. This prompted an inspection and it was found that packets of Aluminium Phosphate were opened and thrown in between the sacks of rice.
It is assumed that the poisonous substance has been mixed in the rice as well. Samples of the rice has been sent for forensic tests. Action will be taken in connection with the incident, food safety officials said.
