No virus can beat hunger; food delivery boys are busy during lockdown
When all are staying inside their households fearing coronavirus, there are some people who never fail to give you what you want to eat from time to time. They are the delivery boys of online food delivery companies and hotel home delivery services. Online food delivery services like Zomato, Swiggy and Potafo are still functioning without fearing the disease.
Most of the delivery boys on the street, work for online food services. They are given emergency passes to travel during the lockdown. "You should stay at home. But don't worry, we will give you the food you want," said Bijoy who works for Swiggy.
Most of the food services now function between 8 am and 8 pm. Potafo staff have to work at least four hours a day compulsorily.
"We wear mask while working. It has two advantages. First we will be safe. Secondly, people cannot identify us and alienate," said another delivery boy.
More orders from flat dwellers
The delivery staff said that most of their customers dwell in flats. But some people living in houses also order food. The flat dwellers often come down to receive food and then go back.
"That is a good idea. We go to different places from morning to night. We don't know what is happening here. But make sure we don't spread the disease," said a delivery boy of Swiggy.
More biryani lovers
Ever since lockdown was announced, more online orders are received for biryanis. Chicken, fish and beef biryanis are ordered by many customers. During normal days, only 4-5 orders were received within 4 hours. But after lockdown was imposed, more than 15 orders are received. But very few people order for ordinary meals, the delivery boys said.
