Malayalis love their puttu (steamed rice cakes) for breakfast. What if you can add some healthy twits to this traditional breakfast item? Here is how to use carrot, beetroot, cauliflower and green peas to make tastier and healthier masala-veg puttu.
Wheat flour: 2 cups
Carrot: 1 nos (grated)
Beetroot: 1 nos (grated)
Cauliflower: 1 large piece (cooked)
Green chilli: 2 nos
Green peas: ½ cup (cooked)
Turmeric powder: ½ teaspoon
Black pepper powder: ½ teaspoon
Salt: As per taste
Oil: As per requirement
Water: As per requirement
Grated coconut: As per requirement
Heat up some oil in a pan. Add the carrot, beetroot, green peas and green chilies. Once the mix is caramelised, add the turmeric powder, add the cauliflower chopped into small pieces along with black pepper and salt. Cook until the vegetables are tender and then take it off the heat.
In a bowl add the wheat flour and mix it with water and salt. Add in the vegetable mix and mix well. Prepare puttu in a steamer by periodically adding the wheat flour, vegetable mix and coconut.
