There are several spicy chicken dishes made in the traditional Kerala style. Chicken Pepper Piralan is one such dish that is easy to prepare. Here is how.
Chicken – 1 kg (medium pieces)
Chilli powder – 2 teaspoons
Garam masala – 1 teaspoons
Black pepper powder – 2 teaspoons
Corn flour – 1 teaspoons
Turmeric powder – ¼ teaspoon
Coriander powder – 1 teaspoons
Salt – as per taste
Onions – 3 (medium sized, roughly chopped)
Tomato – 2 (medium sized, roughly chopped)
Garlic-ginger-green chilli paste – as per requirement
Coriander leaves, curry leaves – as per requirement
Take the chicken and add the chilli powder, garam masala, black pepper powder, corn flour salt and turmeric powder and mix well. Marinate it for 30 minutes. Then heat up some sunflower oil in a frying pan and fry the chicken pieces.
In another pan, heat up some oil and lightly fry the onions. Once the onions become translucent add the tomatoes. Then add the ginger-garlic-green chilli paste into it and mix well. Add one spoon of chilli powder, black pepper powder and coriander powder and continue mixing until the aroma starts to come out. Then add the cooked chicken pieces and mix thoroughly. In a bowl, mix corn flour with some water and make a slurry. Add the slurry along with some salt into the chicken. Then, add the curry leaves, coriander leaves and some water and cook the chicken for 5 – 10 minutes. Once the gravy reaches the desired consistency, take it off the heat. Delicious chicken pepper piralan is ready.
