Mohanlal’s concept of Kerala Tourism

Laws and policies should be implemented to enhance quality tourism. People’s attitudes towards tourists and their environment should become positive. Also, law enforcers should develop a polite policing attitude towards the tourists.

Mollywood superstar Mohanlal has rich experience in travelling around the world. On the occasion of World Tourism Day, he shared his concepts of quality tourism with minister PA Mohammed Riyas during a chit chat held for rebuilding the tourism sector which is hit by the pandemic. He also inaugurated the mobile application launched by the Tourism department to enhance exploration in Kerala.

1. Tourism-friendly culture

Kerala should be moulded to a tourism-friendly state like many culturally rich countries which depend on tourism as a major source of income. Laws and policies should be implemented to enhance quality tourism. People’s attitudes towards tourists and their environment should be positive. Also, law enforcers should develop a polite policing attitude towards the tourists.

He also asserted that the cultural heritage should be showcased by reputed practitioners. Mohanlal said that there are certain anti-social people who take advantage of tourists and misguide them. As Ayurveda is admired by international tourists, It should be showcased by qualified and genuine Ayurvedic practitioners. Likewise, everything Kerala showcases should be genuine and supervised.

2. Toilet facilities

Mohanlal and P A Mohammed Riyas

Mohanlal asserted that a toilet facility should be implemented at every 10 km which is important for long route travellers. Every traveller can stop and take a deep breath after every 2 hours which can relax their muscles and brain for a long and safe journey.

3. Caravan Tourism

Mohanlal appreciated the Government’s venture into Caravan tourism. 100 caravan parks will be established in Kerala. All basic needs like water, cooking facilities and others will be arranged in the caravan. This enables the visitors to spend a night or a day for an extended period to explore the destination. Caravan Tourism will also promote Responsible Tourism activities for sustainable growth and for the benefit of the local communities, promote eco-friendly practices and market for local products. This can create wide employment opportunities in remote areas as well. Also, provide an opportunity to explore various unexplored areas in the state.

4. Tourism clubs at educational institutions

Mohanlal and Riyas discussed the role of youth in tourism. They suggest that every educational institution including schools and colleges should bring tourism clubs through which students can come into the field of tourism, become tourist guides, student police at tourist spots, explore and report unexplored areas etc. Also, they can review certain places which can be developed into tourist spots and add them to the app.

5. Variants in Tourism

Mohanlal and Riyas brought up ideas like food tourism, adventure and forest tourism, hydel tourism, wellness tourism etc. Mohanlal said that food tourism will be attractive because every district has different culinary varieties especially in northern Kerala which has worldwide fans.

Food streets during nights can be developed in places like ‘Valiyangadi’ in Kozhikode where history lies in every corner. Also, the old bridges like the old Moidu bridge in Dharmadam can be converted into a food street so that people can stop by, have food, chat and learn about its history. Skygliding in Vagamon can be a major attraction for adventure lovers.
