Wayanad witnessed a huge rush of tourists during the Easter and Vishu holidays. The hill district welcomed over 1.5 lakh tourists from April 6 to 16.
The District Tourism Promotion Council of Wayanad fetched a revenue of over Rs 1 crore, solely from the ticket sales on these 10 days. As per the reports, 65,608 persons visited the tourist centres listed under DTPC.
Apart from the tourist centres under DTPC, KSEB’s Banasura Sagar dam received 34,265 tourists from April 7 to 16, resulting in a revenue collection of Rs 43.01 lakh. As many as 24,912 visitors arrived at Karapuzha dam under the department of Irrigation. The department secured a revenue of Rs 6.84 lakh (excluding the income from the adventure park).
En Ooru tribal heritage hamlet and Chembra Peak under the department of forest are the other destinations which experienced huge inflow of visitors. Many tourists have also arrived in Wayanad to stay in resorts without visiting any of the tourist centres here.
