Catamaran Cruise service on Kochi backwaters: KSWTD's project to give major push to tourism

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala State Water Transport Department(KSWTD) has been planning to start Catamaran Cruise service on Kochi backwaters. The double-decker cruise boat service will have amenities such as open stage, food, gathering spot, air-condition and pushback seats. Interestingly, it will be solar powered.

According to KSWTD MD Shaji V Nair, the catamaran in its final stages of construction.

“The interior designing has to be done to attract tourists. The discussions on related process are ongoing. The objective is to attract public by offering the service at minimal rates,” he said.

The service will be operated twice a day. The boat can accommodate around 100 individuals in each trip. It is learnt that Kuttanad cruise service model will be imbibed for the operation. The proposed route will cover Fort Kochi, Mattancherry, Marine Drive and other pockets. The plan is to rollout its as a packaged service.
