Anchalumoodu: Kollam district collectorate granted approval to restart entry to Sambranikodi islets, which had attracted hundreds of visitors daily. Tourists will be allowed to visit the islets abiding to strict restrictions from the middle of December. The picturesque islets of Sambranikodi are located in the southern edge of Ashtamudi Lake in Kollam.

In July, the authorities had banned the entry to Sambranikodi islets following the death of a woman after boat capsized while heading to the island.

The conference of the district administration decided to resume entry to the islets considering the demands of the locals to restart tourist activities in the spot. The District Tourism Promotion Council has taken up the control of this site located in the middle of the deep lake. The boats operating services to Sambranikodi must have registration and licence.

DTPC will ensure both online and offline ticket booking facilities to visit the islets before restarting tourist activities here. The authorities will fix a time limit for the visitors to be spent in the islets. Restrictions will be imposed on the maximum number of tourists allowed at a time. Regular inspections will be carried out by various departments at Sambranikodi.
