Wayanad: Kanthanpara is all set for an exciting experience for the adventure lovers who reach here to enjoy the waterfalls. With the support of a rope, people can drop to 40 feet in depth through the waterfalls by stepping over the slippery rocks of the waterfalls. It is for the first time that rappelling is being introduced in Kerala.
The new project has been introduced by the District Tourism Promotion Council to promote adventure tourism in the state. In view of this, Bengaluru Adventure School conducted rappelling in Kanthanpara on an experimental basis.
The tourism sector of Wayanad will receive a new turn with this. Though rock climbing and rappelling are popular sports in north Indian states, the southern states, especially Kerala had not explored the possibilities of it.
The tourism council mainly aims for youths for this adventure tourism project. In the initial phase, the safety measures will be taken with assistance from the private sector. The council is also considering the scope of providing training to the tourists in rappelling. DTPC secretary KG Ajesh, Kanthanpara manager MS Dinesh and the managers from the other similar tourist destinations attended the experimental rappelling programme.
