Malabar River Festival
Kozhikode: Thusharagiri is all set for a massive splash with Kerala’s international Kayaking competition, the Malabar River Festival, between 4-6 August. Chalipuzha and Iruvinjipuzha rivers in Kozhikode will host the competition organized by the Kerala Adventure Tourism Promotion Society and DTPC under the aegis of the Kerala Tourism Department.
The competition, where kayakers from around the world participate, will include events like the giant slalom, boater cross, etc. This year's event will also hold National White Water Kayaking Championship.
Another laurel comes Kerala’s way as this competition holds the distinction of being the first venue for the 2024 Paris Olympics trials. Various other sports events are also being organised as a part of this year’s River Festival. These include cross-country races, mud football, cycling, monsoon walk, kayaking brush strokes, off-road expeditions and kite flying. These events will commence on July 29 onwards.
The Indian Kayaking Canoeing Association will take charge of the security arrangements, and a committee helmed by tourism minister P.A. Mohammed Riyas (Convenor), district collector A. Geetha (Chairman) and Deputy Director of Tourism department D Girish is in place.
A two-day monsoon kayaking excursion by DTPC and KSRTC Budget Tourism cell will begin on August 4 at 7 AM from Kozhikode, covering Kakkadampoil, Nayadampoil, Kozhipara Falls, Pulikayam kayaking centre, Thusharagiri falls, Vanaparavam and Aripara falls.
