Speed boating at Banasura Sagar dam

Padinjarathara: The tourists who visited the Banasura Sagar dam were enthralled by the speed boat services on Vishu- Easter holidays here. The boat services in the dam became accessible to all when the authority deployed two more speed boats here.

At present, six speed boats and a pontoon boat service are taking service at Banasura Sagar dam. However, four of the speed boats were not functional for the past few months and the visitors who reached here raised complaints regarding this. The new speed boats were launched recently by fixing new engines to those boats under repair. The pontoon boat was also repaired.

The officials informed that the new engines were imported from Japan and were received only after four months from the date of placing the order. Engines for the remaining two boats have been ordered along with another for spare.

On the Vishu- Easter holidays, 8000 to 9000 visitors have arrived at the Banasura Sagar dam every day. Currently, the boats are undertaking at least 100 trips per day.

The visitors can avail a boat safari for 15 minutes which covers 4 kilometres distance. Five persons can be seated on a boat which costs Rs 1000 for a trip. Meanwhile, 20 persons can travel on pontoon boats at a time. Rs 2000 is charged for a 30-minutes long trip in pontoon boats. Apart from Kerala, visitors from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are also flocking here, mainly for the boating experience.
