Snowfall in Munnar as temperature once again drops below zero


Munnar: The popular hill tourist location Munnar is once again witnessing heavy cold weather this season. On Friday night, minus one degree Celsius was recorded in some places of the town in the Idukki district. This is the fourth time the mercury has fallen below zero. Snowfall was also witnessed.

A temperature of minus one degree Celsius was recorded at Silent Valley, Chenduvara, Kannimala, Old Devikulam, Chokkanad and Lakkad cement bridge.

The highest snowfall occurred on Friday in the Kannimala and Lakkad cement bridge areas.

This is the first time in the last 20 years that the temperature in Munnar has gone below zero in the month of February. Munnar town recorded 1 degree Celsius.

Snowfall has been reported in Munnar since December last week. The last incident was on January 18.
