Tourists wanting to visit the majestic Idukki arch dam take note. The ticket counter to enter the dam will be shifted to Vellappara. Until now, the ticket counter was functioning near the Cheruthoni dam. The decision was made in the light of security breach at the dam. Security personnel will also be posted near the shutters. The decision was taken in a meeting held at the Collectorate under the leadership of the District Collector.

Mandatory body checks

From now onwards, everyone who visits the dam will be subject to a security check. A separate cabin has been set up for women’s body check. Female police will be appointed to carry out the checks on women.

Visitors to the dam are only allowed to carry drinking water and infant formula, if required beyond the security checkpoint. Other items like mobile phones, camera, bag, watch, purse, etc are not allowed. Those going for boating are also not permitted to carry cameras and mobile phones anymore.

Earlier this month, in a purported security breach at Cheruthoni Dam here, an unidentified man placed locks on the high-mast lights and poured a liquid on the wire rope of dam shutters.
