Thrissur: “I have one more wish left. When I told it to my children, they agreed. It is a chance to be happy and besides, I will be accompanied by my loved ones on this trip”- says Payimma, also known as Kunjiyamma to her beloved. Kunjiyamma is planning to go to Goa on May 15. Her family including her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren are preparing for this trip. Wondering what is so special about all of it? Payimma just turned 101!
Thrissur Vellanikkara native Kunjiyamma lived a normal life till the age of 65. She worked hard in the fields with her husband Govindan Ezhuthachan who was a farmer. They raised five children together. Then they started a plant nursery. Kunjiyamma lost her husband in 1990.
Her long trip was to Sabarimala after the age of 65. She went there twice after that. It was after the age of 90 that Payimma started travelling a lot. She started going on journeys within Kerala to the neighbouring states with her family. “My children and grandchildren are ready to take me, that is my biggest luck,” Kunjiyamma says happily.
