Kelakam: Visitors are allowed to enter the astounding Palukachimala hills in Kottiyoor from July 31. The flag-off for the first trekking team was held on Sunday morning here.

Though the Palukachimala trekking was inaugurated on June 3, entry to the hilltop was not allowed due to the absence of insurance coverage.

The project was realised after the combined effort of the Kelakam and Kottiyoor grama panchayats. Palukachi forest conservation committee will be given in charge of the trekking facilities here. Six temporary staff appointed by this committee will assist the visitors at Palukachimala. Basic facilities, such as ticket counter, cloakroom, and lavatories were set up in this tourist site.
