Chelannur: Minister of Tourism Muhammad Riyas visited Oloppara to come up with the possibilities of eco-friendly tourism in the regions of Oloppara and Kachira, lying in the banks of river Akalapuzha. The Tourism Minister was accompanied by Minister AK Saseendrean and other public representatives of the locality.
The flourishing mangroves and the charming scenic beauty make these regions ideal for the eco-friendly tourist projects. The Minister has decided to develop a new tourism project by maintaining the mangroves and the natural flow of the river intact. Also the active participation of the nearby Kakkodi, Chelannur and Thalakulathur Grama Panchayats will be ensured in this mission.
Mangroves- the saviours of coastline
Mangrove forests are the most productive and diverse ecosystem which support many other species of flora and fauna including fish communities to thrive by depending on it. It also reduces erosion and stabilises the coastline.
In the last three decades, Kerala has lost more than 95% of its mangrove forests due to many natural and anthropogenic factors. Hence, several mangrove conservation projects have initiated by the government to reinstate the prosperity of coastline ecosystem.
