Kozhikode: KSRTC secured record revenue from its budget tourism services within a year of launching the project. Compared to the tourist services, no other projects have contributed a remarkable profit from non-ticket revenue in the history of the corporation.
KSRTC formed the budget tourism cell in November 2021 by targeting extra revenue from the non-ticket category. The corporation secured Rs 10,45,06,355 from the different budget tourism services during the period between November 2021 and October 2022. As many as 2907 services were conducted under 602 tour packages from selected depots in all districts. A total of 1,94,184 passengers became part of KSRTC’s tourist packages during this period.

KSRTC has decided to launch inter-state trips in the second year of the budget tourism project. The corporation will resort to the aid of other agencies for inter-state travel. The tour packages which provide food and accommodation facilities within the buses are also under consideration. However, the shortage of buses remains a hindrance to this proposal, said KSRTC budget tourism cell coordinator V Prasanth.
