Idukki: A huge rush is being experienced for cruising in the forest department’s motor boat ‘Kolumban’ at Idukki reservoir. The Kolumban boat safari offers a great time to the visitors by beholding the picturesque Idukki reservoir and its vicinity.

Rs 145 is charged per passenger for a half-an-hour trip on the Kolumban boat while Rs 85 has been charged for children. As many as 20 passengers will be allowed on the trip. The Department of Forest ensures daily boat services here.

Over 5,400 tourists enjoyed boat safaris at Idukki reservoir in the last December and January, through which the department earned a revenue of Rs 3.47 lakh.

Kolumban boat service will be available in Vellappara even when the visitors are restricted at Idukki dam. The officials said that operating boat services with less than 20 passengers is not economically viable for the department. Hence, they demand to deploy a small boat which can occupy 10 passengers here.
