Bekal beach park to get a facelift soon, govt approves renovation project worth Rs 4.96 cr

Udma: The Kerala tourism department has given nod to the renovation project of Bekal beach park adjacent to the Bekal fort. The authority has earmarked Rs 4,96,76,919 for the project. Bekal Resorts Development Corporation (BRDC) will raise Rs 2 crore and the tourism department will take up the rest of the expense.

The park will get a facelift with a graceful entrance door, meadows, walkways, gardens, roundabout, sculptures, attractive lamps, toys for children, canteens and an amphitheatre. The park is situated on 18.5 acres of land in Pallikkara beach under the ownership of BRDC.

The Pallikkara Cooperative Bank has been undertaking the works of the park by paying Rs 68,0784 along with the tax. The bank has requested the tourism department to extend the contract for seven more years from the expiry date of the existing contract.

MLA CH Kunjambu said that the Pallikkara Cooperative bank is willing to spend Rs 2 crores for the renovation works of the beach park. A high-level committee meeting will be held before executing the beach park renovation project, added the MLA.
