Athirappilly: The rush of travellers to Malakkappara region is shooting up with the introduction of KSRTC tourist services. Tourism has turned out to be the major source of income of the locals here.
The number of tourists, who come for a journey through heavy mist enjoying the flora and fauna here, is increasing day by day. In many KSRTC depots, the Malakkappara services till January are already fully booked.
Heavy rush is experienced in the shops that sell tea dust and spices. The tribals of the region can also generate an income if ecoshops displaying their products are set up near the tourist sites. However, the lack of basic facilities pose a challenge in Malakkappara.
The authorities have to ensure that proper sanitation facilities are available for the travellers. Though the panchayat has a comfort station, it is used for accommodating road construction workers. Hence, the visitors and locals urge to improve the facilities in this tourism potential region.
