Kochi: Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has recommended Kerala to accord industry status to the tourism sector in the state.

CII has opined that the pandemic had affected the tourism sector of the state and hence, vigorous initiatives have to be resorted in this field as it has the potential to revive Kerala’s economy.

CII has demanded to set up Ayurveda university and International Centre of Excellence in the state, meeting international standards to utilise Kerala’s potential in medical tourism and wellness sphere.

Bharath Biotech Managing Director Suchitra pointed out that a special focus has to be given for urban development here. She said that the districts are the development engines of the state and informed that the CII will concentrate on the towns of Kottayam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Kozhikode for its activities pertaining to tourism.

Information Technology, startups, MSME, agriculture, food security and spices are the other realms in which CII will focus in Kerala this year.
