Surrealistic paintings depicting past, present and future of Cherala
Kozhikode: ‘Fables from Island Cherala’, a solo exhibition of paintings by K Sudheesh was inaugurated here at the Kerala Lalitakala Akademi Art Gallery. The paintings were created from the perspective of the past, present and future of the village of Cherala.
The artist has used various methods and surfaces to bring out his visions. His paintings were done on canvas, terracotta pieces, dried palm leaf baskets and cloth. The ideas were truly surrealistic in nature as he juxtaposed images that human mind might consider as irrational. The exhibition on the whole gives the viewers the emotional history of Cherala, right from the colonial times to the present, spanning over its customs, tradition (the painting ‘procession in the day of celebration’ gives this idea) and its modernity.
K Sudheesh, who currently works as a Faculty of fine arts at Sadhbhavana World School had studied art from Universal art school Calicut and Govt. College of fine arts, Thrissur. He has won the Kerala Lalitha Kala Akademi State award in 1993, 1999, and 2003.
