Girl sheds happy tears while enjoying pooram in viral video, friend opens up about the moment

“It was a humongous task to get there, that close to where all of it was happening amidst all that crowd. I asked Kichu (Krishnapriya) if she wanted to hop on my shoulders as she was not able to see from where she was standing. She hopped on instantly because she was dying to see what was going on there."

It was on May 10 that all of Thrissur and Pooram lovers from around Kerala celebrated Thrissur Pooram in all grandeur after a break of two years. The vibrant photos and videos of the grand festival have been doing the rounds on social media for the past few days. But there is this one video that stood out amongst all the colourful visuals of the ceremonies related to Pooram. It was of this young woman sitting over the shoulder of her friend and enjoying Pooram to the fullest. The young woman, Krishnapriya, can be seen getting very emotional at the beginning of the video, then she goes back to vibing to the inescapable beats of the melam. Sudeep Madambi, her friend is the one who was carrying her over his shoulders. Mathrubhumi.com reached out to the duo in the viral video to know the story behind Krishnapriya’s tears.

Sudeep recollects the events - “We had gone to see Pooram and was waiting for hours to get to a vantage point. I have been to see Thrissur Pooram before, but it was the first time for three of my female friends who were with me. The place was heavily guarded by police and they made us stand on the other side of the barricade which was installed there. Unfortunately, the spot where we ended up is the place that is used to store the explosives and fireworks used for ‘Vedikettu’. After a while, a few people came and asked us to move from there and told them that we are not allowed to be in its vicinity. We were pushed back further into the crowd. We got quite disappointed, but the girls were adamant that they wouldn’t go back without seeing Pooram. That was all the motivation I needed. We moved forward cutting through the crowd. Many men were shouting at us and passing sexist remarks as we went forward.”

“It was a humongous task to get there, that close to where all of it was happening amidst all that crowd. I asked Kichu (Krishnapriya) if she wanted to hop on my shoulders as she was not able to see from where she was standing. She hopped on instantly because she was dying to see what was going on there. So what you see in the video is Kichu shedding happy tears after finally getting there. The joy of finally having checked off one thing from her wishlist. She was overwhelmed by emotions at that moment,” says Sudeep. Sudeep is a native of Elthuruth who works in the Automobile field. However, he adds that his true passion is to work in the cinema industry.

"The video was shot and posted online by the admin of Troll Thrissur page on Instagram. We learnt that the video had gone viral after it got reshared extensively. Minister R Bindu and many others shared it as well," he added.

Krishnapriya, a native of Mannuthy works as a Content Co-ordinator and Sub-Editor with an Online PR Media. The two of them have been friends for a long time and are dead set on going to see Thrissur Pooram in the coming years.
