How Bharathappuzha is being revived - a case study
The water conservation project implemented in the Bharathappuzha is helping to revive the river to its earlier state when it was considered as a major water source of Palakkad and Thrissur districts.
Eram group took up the initiative to create awareness and implementing practical measures to save water in Bharathappuzha in 2017 when the district was met with huge water scarcity. 6 check dams were repaired by local people in association with local body governments.
Ponds were cleaned and refilled. Sustainable methods utilizing and ecological use of ground water was ensured. After two years, the measures have helped to retain water in the river and which in turn recharged the wells in the area.
