Wayanad girls to represent Kerala in National Children’s Science Congress

Kalpetta: The National Children’s Science Congress in Ahmedabad will witness the participation of four students from Wayanad. A total of 10 teams including 4 in the Junior category and 6 in the senior category will represent Kerala in the national level competition which will be held in January

The four students from Wayanad have been selected for the presentation of two projects.

C. A. Anjana and Pavithra Babu from Jayashree Higher Secondary School got selected for their study on “Depletion of crab habitat and indigenous food security’. The study identified excessive fertiliser usage as the cause for the decrease in the crab population in Cheeyambram, where crab is an important source of nutrition.

Shivon Ann Wilfred from G.H.S.S, Kaniyambetta and Lakshmi Bharathi from S.K.M.J.H.S.S, Kalpetta got selected for their project on ‘Carbon absorption capacity in Coffee plantations and biodiversity’. The study focused on the reduction in carbon emissions in the context of global warming and identified shade-grown coffee in Wayanad as an ideal model for this.
