Thrissur: A team of scientists shared information regarding the experiments of oral contraceptive pills for men, during the annual conference of Endocrine Society held at Atlanta in Georgia. They successfully conducted a set of clinical trials of two different medicine compounds.

It has been hinted that the pills which yielded 90 per cent result in the initial trial endured its efficiency in the second trial also. The clinical tests began following the 99 per cent positive result obtained in the experiments on rodents. 96 men participated in the first phase of experiments. When compared to those who had not consumed any pills, the sperm count was found less for the men who had intaken 200 milligram pills daily for 28 days. The sperm count was even lower for the men who consumed 400 milligram pills daily.

No side effects were reported in the men who had taken the pills. This urged the team to enter into the next level of trials. It will be experimented on more men. If the results of the third phase of the trial turn successful, the pills will become available in the market.
