IIM-K Director Dr. Debashis Chatterjee releases 'Parenting Paadangal'
Kozhikode: Knowing the aptitudes and tastes of children is the basic mantra of good parenting, said IIM-K Director Dr. Debashis Chatterjee, after releasing 'Parenting Paadangal'. He mentioned the nine-minute principle followed by his teacher-wife, Aditi, in raising their two daughters. It entailed spending three minutes each with them immediately on waking up, on returning from school and again before going to sleep.
Everything that constitutes an individual life is the amazing saga of one cell battling all odds to earn its place in the sun, he added. Learning coach and corporate mentor Sandhya Varma turns author, with this first book, an edited compilation of her popular eponymous weekly column, which had completed a century in Mathrubhumi Nagaram. It is published by Aspire, an imprint of Mathrubhumi Books.
Mathrubhumi daily Executive Editor P I Rajeev received the first copy; and Silver Hills Public School Principal Fr. John Mannarathara, who inspired her becoming a teacher at CMI Devagiri Public School spoke on the work, which he said would prove to be a boon to both parents and the ‘sandwich’ generation.
In her author’s address, Sandhya reflected on the collective efforts of people who supported her effort, including Sreekanth Kottakkal, who edited the supplement then, and translator Geethanjaly Babu. She was grateful to her parents, Manohar Varma and Radhamani V, who helped raise her daughter Chaitanya, her friends for their constructive criticism; as also students and their parents whose experiences helped her comprehend the challenges of parenting. Keen readers too came in for praise for emails and regular feedback. She paid tribute to her late husband who had exhorted her to excel in life.
Manager-Exhibitions, M Jayaraj, welcomed the well-attended gathering at K P Kesava Menon hall, with Dr. Mehul Maheswari and Adv. Dinesh Warrier offering felicitations. Earlier, there was an everyday parenting interactive session by Sandhya at the same venue.
