Thiruvananthapuram: Covid-19 vaccination for children between the ages of 15 and 18 began on Monday. The government has announced that the vaccine will be given until 5 pm. Special vaccination centres for children have been set up at all health centres and the vaccine is given to people who were born in 2007 or earlier.

Vaccines are provided only after a detailed examination of the children's health status. The second dose should be taken 28 days after the first dose. They will be only allowed to leave after being in observation for 30 minutes.

Health Minister Veena George has said that the children’s vaccination will be completed timely in the state. Registration can be done by the children themselves or through their parents' accounts. Those who are unable to register will be assisted by their respective schools. The health minister said five lakh doses of Covaxin had been received from the centre by midnight on Sunday and more than 1.5 lakh doses are expected on Monday.

Education Minister V Sivankutty said that all the necessary arrangements have been made across the state regarding this. He said the education department would collect information on children who have been vaccinated in each class. The minister added that a daily count would be made and information would be sought on how many children are left to be vaccinated.
