Thiruvananthapuram: Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram has successfully performed a liver transplant surgery on a Malappuram native on Thursday.
The surgery began around 7 am and was completed by 11:30 pm. The patient, who had been suffering from liver cirrhosis and cancer following non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), is currently under observation in the transplant ICU.
Health Minister Veena George congratulated the transplant team for their achievement and said government hospitals will be equipped to conduct liver transplant surgeries at affordable costs for the common people.
The surgery turned successful with the sincere efforts of a 50-member team of doctors and nurses belonging to surgical gastroenterology, anesthesia and critical care, medical gastroenterology, radiology, operation theatre team, transfusion medicine, microbiology, infectious diseases, nursing section and pathology.
