Kozhikode: The number of fever cases reported in Kozhikode district has witnessed a surge recently. Though Covid 19 cases also increased, many people show reluctance to administer preventive vaccines.
As many as 2084 cases of fever have been recorded in the district on Monday, instead of an average 1000- 1500 cases from September 1 to 10.
However, most of them exhibit only mild symptoms of fever, informed health experts. The symptoms are mostly cough and sore throat, which is being predominantly reported in the case of children.
The relaxation in Covid 19 restrictions and not wearing masks led to the spread of the pandemic again.
The symptoms of Covid 19 and fever are similar and the number of people resorting to Covid tests have decreased. Covid 19 was confirmed in over 1200 persons this month and over 10 death cases were reported. The people who had volunteered to administer the first two doses of vaccines refrain from taking the booster dose. Almost 21,47,121 persons above the age of 18 have administered the initial two doses of vaccines.
Meanwhile, only 1,96,680 persons, including health experts and frontline workers, have taken the booster shots. Children (below 18 years) are not being administered with booster shots currently.
