Nadapuram: Eight students have been diagnosed with measles in Nadapuram. Reportedly, the cases have been recorded in the grama panchayat wards 6, 7 and 19.
A large number of children who have sought treatment at the hospital have measles symptoms, said the authorities. Currently, four children in ward 7, three in ward 6 and one in ward 19 have been diagnosed with the disease.
As of now, around 20 people have shown symptoms and the disease is likely to spread further, said the doctors. In the Nadapuram panchayat, a total of 340 students are yet to get vaccinated for measles, health department authorities said.
Meanwhile, as part of preventive measures, a special task force has been appointed to conduct a door-to-door vaccine programme. Efforts are also underway to set up an isolation ward at the Government Taluk Hospital in Nadapuram.
The health department authorities have directed children with symptoms such as fever to seek medical assistance immediately.
In the backdrop of the incident, a special meeting was convened in the panchayat in the presence of district level officials.
