Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala remains in top position in the number of COVID-19 cases reported per day in the country.
The daily number of COVID patients in Kerala has been above 6,000 for the last 4 days. In comparison, the daily figure in Maharashtra, where the most number of people were infected with COVID, is below 3,000 per day.
Kerala is fourth in the country in the number of total COVID cases reported so far with 8,77,282 cases till Friday. Maharashtra (20,03,657), Karnataka (9,34,576) and Andhra Pradesh (8,86,694) are currently holding the first three positions in the total number of patients.
Though the test positivity rate in Kerala came down to 9 percent at one phase, it rose to 11.63 percent on Friday. Compared to other states, the high population density and urban connectivity increased the disease transmission. The reason behind the high rate of disease transmission through contact is also the same. In Kerala, more number of people are subjected to tests compared to other north Indian states.
The disease recovery rate is currently 91.54 percent in Kerala. The death rate in Kerala is at 0.41 percent while the death rate in national level is 1.5 percent. When COVID death toll in the country reached 1,53,221 till Friday, the death toll in Kerala remained at 3,565. More number of people died in Maharashtra (50,684), Tamil Nadu (12,307), Karnataka (12,190), Delhi (10,789) and West Bengal (10,097).
Sectoral magistrates face work pressure
The sectoral magistrates in the state are unofficially directed to register five cases a day as part of COVID resistance activities. Also complaints arose that the same employees are given the duty of sectoral magistrates.
With this, they are compelled to manage office duty without leave. Sectoral magistrates are appointed from various sections by the district Collectors.
