Thiruvananthapuram: A study conducted Kerala Health Department has suggested restricting free access to anti-rabies vaccines only for families under 'Below Poverty Line' (BPL). However, it is still unclear what the government's stand on the matter.

Health Department proposed the tweak based on a finding that the vast majority of the vaccine beneficiaries in the state are those with better financial backgrounds.

Earlier, the government purchased additional stocks due to high demand. Following this, the health department conducted a study to examine the reasons behind the sudden spike in demand for vaccines in the state. The suggestion comes in the wake of this.
