Thiruvananthapuram: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has decided to request the chief minister to declare a health emergency in the state as the COVID-19 transmission is escalating at an alarming rate. The IMA suggested this as the number of COVID cases is multiplying day by day.

IMA stated that the public need to be made aware of the gravity of situation and implement strict restrictions to stop transmission. COVID protocol should be followed strictly to prevent disease transmission among the public and health workers. The hospitals have reached almost their maximum capacity. IMA is demanding to declare the emergency considering the difficulties of health workers too.

A total of 1 lakh people were confirmed with COVID-19 in the state within 28 days. It is assumed that the number of daily COVID cases may cross 10,000 in the coming days. Then the presently available medical facilities will be insufficient.

Hence, the government need to take action to stop further COVID transmission, IMA demanded. The government has called an all-party meeting to discuss the COVID resistance.
