Palakkad: Mami's Kitchen at Kanniyaman Kovil street here has been alluring foodies by serving 21 varieties of Idli. Vadakantha native B Sunil Kumar started this eatery with the idea to reintroduce idli as a completely different food.
Stick idli, which looks like a kulfi and mostly preferred by kids is one of the major highlights at this shop. Those who found the round idli boring will be surprised to see the rectangle idli here.
Apart from the idli varieties in different shapes, nutritious idlis including ragi idli, tender coconut idli and vegetable idli made of carrot or beetroot are also available here.
Mami’s Kitchen experiments are not limited to Idlis only. A total of 21 types of chutney and 51 types of tea are also available here.

Carrot Idli recipe from Mami’s Kitchen
Ingredients
Raw rice – 1 kg
Urad dal – 300 g
Grated carrot – as much as needed
Salt – as per taste
Preparation:
Wash rice and soak for 6 hours. After washing Urad dal, add it to the rice and soak for one hour. Now, make a batter and add salt. Add the grated carrot to this batter. After five minutes, pour this batter into the idli plates and put some grated carrots on each idli. Now, close the lid and cook for 12 minutes. Serve hot with sambar and chutney.
