Kottayam: Earlier, if you have a Rs 25 in your pocket, you can have a nice snack with tea. But as the price of essential commodities has skyrocketed, the price of bakery products also increased. It is reported that the price hike has resulted in a price increase of Rs 2 to Rs 5 for many of the items.

At the same time, some bakery owners reduced the size and quantity of the items without increasing the price. Currently, the price of everyone’s favourite puffs, cutlet, and spring rolls ranges between Rs 15 and Rs 20. Earlier, these items were priced at Rs 10 or Rs 15.

Ingredients like all-purpose flour, oil, ghee and dalda are mostly used for cooking bakery items. Bakery owners say price hikes in cooking gas and fuel and increase in other costs of production have pushed up the prices.

The current price of a 50 kg sack of all-purpose flour is Rs 1,950. Earlier, it was around Rs 1600-1700. Sunflower oil, which weighs 15 kg, is currently priced at Rs 2,580. Previously it was available for Rs 2400 or Rs 2500. Adding more burden to the business, the LPG price has also crossed Rs 2000.
