Kochi: Malayali’s love for parotta, a layered flatbread made from maida or atta, is a common knowledge for all. Although some may find the dish unhealthy, Kerala Parotta continues to remain the most popular food ordered by Malayalis online.
According to a recent report released by online food delivery application Swiggy, parotta is the most frequently ordered food item online as per data collected from Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram.
Dishes such as Kerala parotta, chicken biryani, idiyappam, pathiri, masala dosa are reportedly the most ordered dishes on Swiggy. Among snacks, ice cream, falooda, choco lava and coconut pudding have topped the list.
Apparently, parotta - beef curry and Parotta - chicken curry are the most sought after combos among food lovers.
According to reports from hotels, online orders for food and fish curry have come down as people opt to dine at hotels directly. However, lunch orders for parotta and biryani have gone up significantly.
In the case of vegetarian food, the popular ones include masala dosa, ghee roast, appam, idiyappam, veg biryani, veg fried rice, gobi manchurian, paneer butter masala and chilli gobi among others.
Interestingly, Malayali’s taste buds are shifting from the traditional ‘thattu dosas’ to Arabian, Chinese and Continental dishes, including mandhi and noodles.
