Karen Chee with the members of 'Kothiyans' WhatsApp group

Thrissur: The love for food took Karen Chee from Malaysia to Thrissur. Karen, a teacher from Petaling Jaya in Malaysia, reached Thrissur to meet her foodie friend.

Karen is the lone foreign member in ‘Kothiyans’, a WhatsApp group formed by food lovers in Thrissur. She has a craze for Kerala cuisine and loves to learn recipes to cook them. Karen joined the WhatsApp group through her friend Rajesh Muttath, who is a chef in Malaysia.

She says the spiciness and sourness of the cuisine is what attracted her. Karen inquires about the details of the foods that her friends share in the group and later finds the recipes from YouTube. She then makes these food items and shares their pictures in the group.

Karen reached Kerala on November 18 with her mother and son. She first visited Alappuzha, then Kozhikode and later reached Thrissur. The ‘Kothiyans’ team welcomed Karen at Gigi’s cakes in Thrissur on Wednesday.
