For love of native place, NRIs set up library in Kasaragod village

Meengoth Library

Kasaragod: A group of youngsters working abroad dreamt of doing something special for their village and took the shape of a library. Thus Pravasi Association Library was set up near Meengoth bridge in Ambalathara here in 2017.

The library is located on top of a 2-storey building. There are over 2500 books in the collection and many periodicals and newspapers are available. A reading hall that can accommodate upto 150 people also is in the library.

Students can utilize the collection of books for reference purpose. Recently, the library won the award of the State Library Council. Though most of the people who contributed for the library were common labourers, they were firm about realizing the dream.

During the Covid times, all activities were being managed via online. But as the restrictions are lifted, children started coming back to the library in search of their favourite books. They are also exploring the possibilities of digital reading.
