College teacher distributes books from home library to promote reading in lockdown


He distributes over 1000 books in his home library. He delivers the books in his vehicle. When the readers complete reading and return it to Biju, he gives another book. All services are for free.

Vellarada (Thiruvananthapuram): A college teacher has become the apple of the eye of local residents in Parassala constituency as he supplies books to people who are staying indoors due to COVID-19 lockdown.

Kunnathukal native Dr Biju Balakrishnan, Malayalam professor at Guruvayur Sree Krishna College and a poet, is taking effort to distribute books when all are stuck without any creative way to get rid of boredom.

Dr Biju delivers books to all places in Parassala constituency as per demand. He said that he initiated the book delivery as all libraries remain closed due to lockdown.

He distributes over 1000 books in his home library. He delivers the books in his vehicle. When the readers complete reading and return it to Biju, he gives another book. All services are for free.

Biju was a research officer at Kerala Bhasha Institute in Thiruvananthapuram. He gives books to children considering their age and interests.

Author of many books, Dr Biju had a key role in preparing the dialogues in typical Travancore slang in movies including 'Celluloid'. He is also a coordinator of education programmes such as Sooryakanthi and Aksharamadhuram implemented in Parassala.
