
The publishers of the book Penguin Random House brought for sale 30 lakh copies of the first edition. Some remarks about Indian leaders like Rahul Gandhi and former prime minister Manmohan Singh in the book had already made headlines.
In "A Promised Land", Obama gives an account of his journey from the 2008 election campaign to the end of his first term with the daring Abbottabad (Pakistan) raid that killed al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden.
In the memoir, Obama said that he has always held a special place for India due to his childhood years spent in Indonesia listening to the epic Hindu tales of the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. He stated that he had never been to India before his Presidential visit in 2010, but the country had always held a special place in his imagination.
Apart from his experiences and memories, Obama has also given a picture of the world politics of the previous two decades in the book. The book can be purchased from Mathrubhumi Books showrooms and website. Though the book costs Rs 1999, it is available for Rs 1599.
