Thiruvananthapuram: The prestigious P Kesavadev Literary and Diabscreen Awards have been announced. These awards recognize outstanding contributions to literature and health education.
The literary award will be presented to Dr Desamangalam Ramakrishnan, a renowned poet and university teacher, for his remarkable achievements. Dr. Ramakrishnan's notable works include ‘Ashtavakrante Veenduvicharangal’, ‘Chithal Varum Kalam’, India Gate, among others. He has held esteemed positions as a Malayalam professor at the University of Kerala, Emeritus Professor at the University of Calicut, Visiting Professor at the University of Madras, and Head of the Department at Thunchath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University.
In recognition of outstanding health education, Dr Cyriac Abby Philips, a renowned liver specialist based in Kochi, was chosen for the P Kesavadev Diabscreen Award. Dr Phillips, known as "The Liver Doc" on social media, has been educating the public about serious liver diseases caused by unscientific treatments and alcohol consumption through his Twitter account.
Dr. Cyriac, through his diligent research and publications, has also been honoured with the Hepatology Excellence Gold Medal, Clinical Hepatology Plenary Award, and Young Investigator Award.
The 19th P Kesavadev Awards will be presented by V Sivankutty, the state education and labour minister, at Kesavadev Hall, Thiruvananthapuram, on June 7 at 4:30 pm.
The memorial lecture will be delivered by R Bindu, higher education minister.
The award committees were chaired by Dr George Onakkoor for literature and Dr Arun Sankar for health education.
