Thiruvilwamala (Thrissur): A giant tapioca was harvested from a single flowerbed here. The tapioca weighing 63-kilograms grew in the farm of Pambady native Sibichan George.

He had harvested tapioca weighing 43 kilogram and 56 kilograms in the previous years. This time, the tapioca weighing 63 kilogram, 54 kilogram and 30 kilogram were harvested from the farm.

Sibichan planted an indigenous variety of tapioca called ‘Kulavan’ brought from Mannarkkad. He had planted 400 plants as intercrop to give shade to the areca nut saplings in the farm.

Sibichan harvested 20 kilograms of tapioca from each flowerbed during the season. He said that he sold the tapioca for Rs 85,000.
