Agricultural Minister P Prasad inaugurating the Mathrubhumi agriculture fair
Palakkad: Farmers shared their scorching issues and queries with the Minister of Agriculture and other officials at the open forum held at Mathrubhumi Agriculture Fair. The five-day long agriculture fest has been organised in connection with the centenary celebrations at Indira Gandhi Municipal stadium in Palakkad.
The farmers requested more subsidies and expressed their difficulties in purchasing seeds and fertilisers by paying a huge price. Agriculture Minister P Prasad and delegates from various departments replied to the queries raised by farmers. The farmers and officials together discussed the agriculture development guidelines prepared by Mathrubhumi.
The minister assured that the Krishidarshan project, which addresses the issues of farmers immediately, will be launched in October. A team, including higher officials and departmental heads, will visit the agricultural plots to probe over complaints.
Kerala has a shortage of 224 agriculture officers. The Minister informed that the PSC rank list for the vacant posts have been prepared already. Temporary appointments will be carried out via employment exchanges, said the minister.
