Mathrubhumi agriculture fair: Minister promises assistance for mixed farming

VN Vasavan addressing the gathering of session ‘Cooperative sector, a helping hand for agriculture’, held as a part of Mathrubhumi agriculture fair in Palakkad.

Palakkad: Cooperation Minister VN Vasavan assured that measures to aid farmers will be given focus and the department is already in the implementation of such schemes.

“It is difficult for those involved in mixed farming to get loan. We will provide assistance to purchase seeds and fertilisers,” he said while addressing the gathering of a session ‘Cooperative sector, a helping hand for agriculture’, held as part of Mathrubhumi agriculture fair in Palakkad.

Vasavan also made some announcements to improve the sector. The major ones are as follows:

  • Formation of surveillance committees to ensure projects reach the farmers
  • Subsidy and loan facility to manufacture agriculture-related machines
  • Rs 2 crore loan for construction of godowns that can be used by agricultural cooperatives to stock the yield
  • Crop mart in all 14 districts for sales of agri-products
Meanwhile, the five-day agriculture fair, organised as part of Mathrubhumi’s centenary celebrations, include around 150 stalls, seminars, open forums and exhibition of agricultural products.
