Kannur: Mango leaf powder is much praised for its medicinal properties and undeniable presence in dental care. According to Ayurveda, mango leaf powder has the power to destroy germs. Now, Kasaragod-based company Inowellness Nikka has come forward with the idea of making teeth cleaning powder using mango leaves. With this, the demand and price for mango leaves has increased more than that of mangoes.

Once it was found that Kuttiattoor mangoes have the best quality, the company representatives arrived at Kuttiattoor and started collecting the mango leaves. The leaves were collected for Rs 150 per kg last day. The rate of mangoes is less than Rs 100 a kg. C M Abraham, director of Inowellness, said that though all mango leaves have medicinal properties, special smell and taste, Kuttiattoor leaves were chosen for their thickness.
Gram panchayat president P P Reji said that since the newfound fame of the mango trees in Kuttiattoor is very beneficial for the farmers, they will cooperate with this venture.
Thanal Kudumbashree unit workers who work in Pontharaparambu which has the best Kuttiattoor mangoes sold nearly one quintal of mango leaves.
